The biggest digital marketing trend going into 2027 is that AI now runs most of the machinery. Google is moving Search campaigns into AI Max, Meta’s ad system picks audiences by reading your creative, and ChatGPT has become an ad channel in its own right. Marketers still control strategy, offers, creative and data quality. In 2027, those four things decide who wins.
Our digital marketing team runs Google, Meta and content campaigns for clients in Bangladesh, the UK and more than 20 other countries, and 2026 changed how almost every one of those campaigns is built. Below are the eight shifts we expect to shape 2027, what is behind each one, and what to do about it now.
Digital marketing trends for 2027 at a glance
| Trend | What is changing | What to do now |
|---|---|---|
| 1. AI-run ad campaigns | Google AI Max and Meta Advantage+ become the default | Feed the AI better inputs and set firm guardrails |
| 2. Creative is the new targeting | Meta reads your ads to decide who sees them | Produce more, and more varied, creative concepts |
| 3. AI chatbots become ad channels | ChatGPT ads are rolling out market by market | Test early with a small, well-tracked budget |
| 4. Agentic shopping | AI assistants recommend products and complete purchases | Clean product data, schema, reviews and policies |
| 5. AI search visibility | AI answers absorb clicks and cite a few brands | Write answer-first content and build brand mentions |
| 6. First-party data wins | Platforms optimise on the conversion signals you send | Set up server-side tracking and offline conversions |
| 7. Video by default | Display folds into Demand Gen, video fills every placement | Build a steady pipeline of short-form video |
| 8. Conversational commerce | Sales move into WhatsApp, Messenger and AI agents | Treat chat as a tracked, staffed sales channel |
1. Will AI fully automate Google and Meta ad campaigns in 2027?
Not fully, but AI-led campaigns are becoming the default on both platforms, and manual set-ups are turning into the exception. Your job shifts from pulling levers to supplying good inputs (offers, creative, audience signals, conversion data) and setting guardrails the AI must respect.
On Google, the change is concrete. From September 2026, eligible Search campaigns began moving to AI Max, which adds search term matching, AI-written ad text and final URL expansion. As RichClicks explains, the Dynamic Search Ads migration was pushed back to February 2027, so 2027 is the year most accounts finish the switch. Google says advertisers using these features together see around 7% more conversions at a similar CPA or ROAS.
Meta has gone the same way. Sales, app and leads campaigns now default to Advantage+, and audience inputs act as suggestions rather than hard limits, according to this round-up of 2026 Meta Ads changes.
What to do:
- Review every AI-written headline and description before it goes live.
- Use brand exclusions, URL exclusions and negative keywords to stop the AI from wandering.
- Check search term reports every week during the first months after a migration.
- Optimise for profit or qualified leads, not cheap clicks.
2. Why is ad creative now the most important targeting tool?
Because Meta’s ad system now decides who sees an ad largely by analysing the ad itself. Its visuals, hook, message and format tell the algorithm who it is for. If all your ads look and sound the same, Meta treats them as one idea and shows them to one narrow group of people.
This is the effect of Meta’s Andromeda ad retrieval system. Jetfuel’s breakdown of Andromeda sums it up as “creative is now the targeting”. It recommends broad targeting, simpler campaign structures and roughly 15–20 active creatives built on genuinely different ideas, not colour swaps of the same ad.
What to do: plan creative around angles, not formats. For one product you might run a problem-solution video, a customer testimonial, a founder explainer, a price comparison and a behind-the-scenes clip. Each one reaches a different buyer. Meta’s own generative AI tools can help with variations, but the core ideas should still come from people who understand your customers.
3. Should businesses advertise on ChatGPT in 2027?
Yes, if ChatGPT ads are available in your market and you can track results properly. Start with a small test budget, because the platform is new and best practice is still forming. Brands that learn it early tend to pay less while competition is low.
OpenAI started testing ads in early 2026 and has expanded quickly. According to this ChatGPT ads timeline, ads appear below answers and are labelled “Sponsored”. They are shown only to Free and Go users, and paid plans stay ad-free. A self-serve Ads Manager opened to US businesses in May 2026. Roll-outs followed in the UK, parts of Europe, India and much of South-East Asia by September 2026, with product feeds and CPA bidding added along the way.
What to do: even before you buy ads, make sure ChatGPT can describe your business accurately. Ask it about your brand, your products and your category. Fix anything wrong or missing on your website, in your reviews and in your directory listings.
4. What is agentic commerce and how will it affect online stores?
Agentic commerce is when an AI assistant shops on a customer’s behalf. It compares products, answers questions and, more and more often, completes the checkout without the shopper visiting your website. For online stores, this means an AI must be able to understand and trust your products before a person ever sees them.
It is already happening. Google began showing Shopping products as carousels inside AI Mode answers in August 2026, chosen by Gemini from Merchant Center feeds (see Common Thread’s 2026 Google Ads tracker). ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity all now offer in-chat buying. Shopify reports that AI-driven traffic to its stores grew 197% year over year in Q2 2026.
What to do:
- Fill in complete product titles, specifications, prices and stock levels in your feeds.
- Add product, review and FAQ schema to every product page.
- Publish clear shipping, returns and warranty policies.
- Collect and show genuine customer reviews.
A fast, well-structured store matters more than ever. Our WordPress and WooCommerce team builds these foundations into every store.
5. How does AI search change digital marketing strategy?
AI answers in Google, ChatGPT and other assistants now handle many simple questions without a click, and they cite only a handful of sources. Marketing strategy has to aim for two things at once: being the brand the AI recommends, and turning the smaller number of visits you do get into leads and sales.
We covered this in depth in our guide to SEO trends for 2027. The short version for marketers: brand mentions, reviews and original expertise now carry more weight. Thin, generic content gets ignored by both Google and AI assistants.
What to do: put budget into content people cannot get elsewhere, such as your own data, case studies, expert opinions and local knowledge. Our content writing team writes every piece answer-first, so AI tools can quote it accurately.
6. Why does first-party data matter if third-party cookies are staying?
Because ad platforms now optimise almost entirely on the conversion signals you send them. Third-party cookies were never the main issue. Your campaigns can only get as good as the data you feed back about who bought, who became a qualified lead and who was a waste of money.
Google officially wound down its Privacy Sandbox in October 2025, and third-party cookies remain in Chrome with no removal date. Even so, ad blockers, browser restrictions and consent rules still mean browser tracking alone misses many conversions. The platforms are filling the gap with first-party tools. Google added IP addresses as a Customer Match signal and introduced multi-source conversions that merge CRM data with tag data in September 2026. Meta’s incremental attribution only works well with a strong Conversions API connection.
What to do:
- Set up server-side tracking: Meta Conversions API and Google enhanced conversions.
- Upload offline conversions, such as closed deals or qualified leads from your CRM.
- Grow your own audience through email lists, WhatsApp opt-ins and loyalty programmes.
- Judge success by blended revenue and cost per acquisition, not by each platform’s own report.
7. Is short-form video still worth investing in for 2027?
Yes. Video has become the default format across nearly every ad placement, not just social feeds. Brands without a steady supply of short videos will find their reach shrinking on both Google and Meta.
Google retired standard Display campaigns in June 2026 and folded them into Demand Gen, which leans heavily on YouTube Shorts, Discover and Gmail. In August 2026 it also began using generative AI to create missing video sizes for Performance Max. Meta is turning product photos into video ads automatically. The platforms want video, and they reward advertisers who supply it.
What to do: build a simple monthly video routine rather than one big production. Phone-shot product demos, customer stories, quick tips and founder clips usually beat polished brand films on cost per result. Shoot vertical first, add captions and put the hook in the first two seconds.
8. Why is conversational commerce growing so fast?
More and more buyers want to ask a question and buy in the same conversation, whether through WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram DMs or an AI chatbot. This is especially true in markets like Bangladesh, where much of online buying already happens through Facebook pages and chat. Businesses that reply fast and well close more of those sales.
The platforms are building for this. Meta now offers business AI agents that can answer product questions in chat. Click-to-message ads are a standard objective on Facebook and Instagram. And AI shopping assistants are training customers to expect instant, accurate answers.
What to do:
- Set a response-time target for chat enquiries and staff for it.
- Prepare answers to your 20 most common questions so humans or AI can reply consistently.
- Track chat leads through to sales, using labels or a simple CRM, so you know which ads actually drive revenue.
- Use AI replies for simple questions, and hand complex or high-value enquiries to a person.
How should businesses plan their digital marketing budget for 2027?
Plan around inputs, not channels. The AI inside each platform will decide much of where your ads appear. What you control is the quality of your offer, creative, data and website. A practical 2027 plan for most small and mid-sized businesses looks like this:
- Fix tracking first. Server-side conversions, offline uploads and clear lead-quality definitions come before any budget increase.
- Fund creative properly. Set aside a fixed share of the budget, often 10–20%, for new ad concepts and video every month.
- Consolidate campaigns. Fewer, broader campaigns give the AI enough data to learn.
- Keep a test budget. Use around 5–10% for new channels such as ChatGPT ads or Demand Gen.
- Invest in owned assets. Strengthen your website, content, reviews and email or WhatsApp lists, because rented reach keeps getting more expensive.
- Review monthly. Look at blended cost per acquisition and revenue across all channels together.

Frequently asked questions
What are the top digital marketing trends for 2027?
The biggest trends are AI-run ad campaigns (Google AI Max and Meta Advantage+), creative-led targeting, ads inside AI chatbots like ChatGPT, agentic shopping, AI search visibility, first-party data and server-side tracking, video in every placement, and sales through chat apps.
Will AI replace digital marketers?
No. AI is taking over bidding, targeting and much of ad assembly, but it still depends on people for strategy, positioning, offers, original creative ideas and clean data. The role is shifting from manual campaign management to directing and auditing the AI.
Is Facebook advertising still effective in 2027?
Yes, Facebook and Instagram ads remain among the most effective channels, especially in Bangladesh and for e-commerce. Success now depends far more on varied, high-quality creative and accurate conversion tracking than on detailed audience targeting.
How much should a small business spend on digital marketing?
There is no single right figure. Many small businesses spend somewhere between 5% and 15% of revenue, with growth-stage companies spending more. Whatever the amount, put tracking and creative in place first, then scale the budget only behind campaigns that show profitable results.
Do I need to change my Google Ads account for AI Max?
Many eligible Search campaigns are being upgraded automatically. Review the new settings, check AI-generated ad text, add brand and URL exclusions where needed, and watch your search term reports closely for the first few weeks after the switch.
