Facebook Ads vs Google Ads for Small Businesses in Bangladesh

Small business owner comparing Facebook ads and Google Ads campaign results on a laptop

For most small businesses in Bangladesh, Facebook ads are the better place to start when you need to create demand for a product people are not yet searching for, and Google Ads are better when customers already search for what you sell. Many businesses end up using both: Google to capture ready-to-buy searches, Facebook to build awareness and retarget visitors.

The right split depends on your product, your margins and how your customers decide. At Softwix we plan and run paid campaigns on both platforms as part of our digital marketing services, and the questions below are the ones we work through with every new client before a single taka is spent.

Budget ranges are typical market ranges we see for small Bangladeshi businesses running a first test. They vary widely by industry, competition and goal.

What is the main difference between Facebook ads and Google ads?

The main difference is intent. Google Ads show your business to people who are actively searching, while Facebook ads show your business to people who match a profile but were not looking for you at that moment.

Think of Google as a shop on a busy road where people already want to buy. Facebook is closer to a well-placed billboard that can follow the right people around, then remind them later.

This one difference shapes everything else: the kind of ad you write, the budget you need, and how you measure success.

Demand capture vs demand creation

  • Google Ads captures existing demand. If someone in Mirpur types “AC servicing near me”, they want a technician today. Your job is to appear and look trustworthy.
  • Facebook ads create demand. Nobody searches for a new handmade jamdani design they have never seen. A good photo in their feed can make them want it.

Which platform reaches more people in Bangladesh?

Facebook has the larger advertising audience inside its own apps, but Google dominates search almost completely. Both reach very large audiences, so reach alone should not decide your choice.

According to the DataReportal Digital 2026: Bangladesh report, Meta’s own tools showed Facebook ads could reach 64.0 million people in Bangladesh in late 2025, with Messenger at 35.0 million and Instagram at 9.15 million. The same report lists YouTube ad reach at 49.8 million, and YouTube ads are bought through Google Ads.

On the search side, StatCounter puts Google’s share of search in Bangladesh at about 98% for September 2026. In practice, if your customers search, they search on Google.

What the numbers mean for you

  • Instagram’s reach in Bangladesh is much smaller than Facebook’s, so for most local campaigns Instagram is a useful extra placement rather than the main channel.
  • Messenger matters. Many Bangladeshi buyers prefer to ask a question in a message before ordering, so “Messages” campaigns often work well for f-commerce pages.
  • Google Search volume for your keywords is the real limit. A huge platform does not help if only a few hundred people a month search for your service.

How much do Facebook ads and Google ads cost in Bangladesh?

There is no fixed price on either platform. Both work as auctions, and you set the budget, so you can start small and scale only what works.

As a guide, many small businesses in Bangladesh test Facebook ads with around Tk 10,000–30,000 a month and Google Search ads with around Tk 20,000–60,000 a month. These are typical market ranges, not fixed rates. Competitive fields such as real estate, overseas education and healthcare usually need more.

How Google Ads charges you

Google Ads Search campaigns mostly charge per click. Your maximum bid is the most you will pay for a click, and you often pay less.

Google’s Google Ads cost documentation explains two budget rules every owner should know:

  • On any single day, your campaign can spend up to 2 times your average daily budget when traffic is high.
  • Across a billing month, you will not be charged more than 30.4 times your average daily budget. So a Tk 1,000 daily budget means a monthly maximum of roughly Tk 30,400.

How Facebook ads charge you

Meta ads are usually charged by impressions, while the system optimises delivery for the goal you choose, such as messages, website purchases or leads. You still set a daily or lifetime budget, so spend is under your control.

Meta’s auction does not simply reward the highest bidder. Meta’s explanation of how its ad auction works lists three factors: the advertiser’s bid, the estimated action rate (how likely a person is to take the action you want) and ad quality. Low-quality signals include engagement bait, sensationalised language and too much text in images.

Paying for ads from Bangladesh

Both platforms bill in a foreign currency or through international cards for most Bangladeshi advertisers. Before you launch, check your card’s international spending limit with your bank and keep the receipts for your accounts. Tax and VAT treatment of foreign digital ad payments has changed over the years, so confirm the current position with your accountant.

When should a small business choose Google Ads?

Choose Google Ads when people already search for your product or service and the value of each customer is high enough to justify paying for clicks.

Good fits include:

  • Local services: plumbers, AC repair, pest control, clinics, salons, driving schools.
  • Urgent needs: laptop repair, emergency travel visas, car rental, courier services.
  • B2B services: software development, logistics, printing, office supplies, consultancy.
  • Exporters and service companies selling abroad: people in the UK or US searching for a supplier or agency.

What makes Google Ads work

Google rewards relevance. Its Quality Score help page describes a 1–10 score built from three parts: expected click-through rate, ad relevance and landing page experience. A clear, fast, relevant landing page is not optional.

  1. Pick a small set of high-intent keywords, for example “corporate gift supplier Dhaka” rather than “gift”.
  2. Add negative keywords early to block irrelevant searches such as “free”, “job” or “course” if they do not apply.
  3. Send each ad group to a matching page, not your home page.
  4. Track calls and form submissions as conversions from day one.

Google Ads also works best alongside organic search. If you run a local service, pair your campaigns with the steps in our local SEO checklist so you appear in Maps and organic results as well as the paid slots.

When should a small business choose Facebook ads?

Choose Facebook ads when your product is visual, impulse-friendly or new, and when you can sell through messages, a Facebook page or an online shop.

Good fits include:

  • Clothing, shoes, cosmetics and jewellery.
  • Home-cooked food, cakes and restaurant offers.
  • Gadgets and accessories with a clear “wow” factor.
  • Events, training workshops and new branch openings.
  • Any business that already sells well through Messenger or WhatsApp.

What makes Facebook ads work

  1. Creative first. The image or video does most of the targeting work now. Test 3–5 different creatives rather than one.
  2. Choose the right objective. If you close sales in Messenger, use a messages objective. If you have a working online shop with tracking, use sales.
  3. Install tracking properly. The Meta Pixel and Conversions API help Meta learn who buys, not just who clicks.
  4. Retarget. Show ads to people who visited your site, watched your videos or messaged your page. These audiences usually convert better than cold ones.

Which gives a better return on investment?

Neither platform has a better return in general. The better platform is the one that matches how your customers buy, measured against your own profit per sale.

A simple way to compare them fairly:

Metric What to calculate Why it matters
Cost per lead or order Ad spend ÷ number of leads or orders Shows what each result costs on each platform
Lead-to-sale rate Sales ÷ leads Google leads often close at a higher rate than Facebook leads
Cost per sale Ad spend ÷ actual sales The number that decides which platform wins
Return on ad spend Revenue from ads ÷ ad spend Useful for e-commerce with clear order values
Fake or cancelled orders Cancelled orders ÷ total orders Cash on delivery returns can hide true cost on either platform

A cheap Facebook lead that never answers the phone can cost more than an expensive Google lead that buys. Always compare cost per sale, not cost per click or cost per message.

Can you use Facebook ads and Google ads together?

Yes, and for many businesses the combination works better than either alone. Each platform covers a different stage of the buying journey.

  • Awareness: Facebook and Instagram video or image ads introduce your brand.
  • Consideration: people who saw your ads later search for your brand or product type on Google.
  • Purchase: Google Search ads capture that search; Facebook retargeting reminds people who visited but did not buy.

A practical starting split for a small budget is around 70% on the platform that best matches your product and 30% on the other, then shift money towards whichever produces the lower cost per sale after four to six weeks. What are the most common mistakes small businesses make?

The most common mistake is boosting posts without a clear goal or tracking, then judging the result by likes. The second is running Google Ads to a slow, generic home page.

  • Boosting instead of building campaigns. The boost button is convenient but offers fewer options than Ads Manager.
  • No conversion tracking. Without it, both platforms optimise for the wrong people.
  • Broad keywords with no negatives on Google, which wastes budget on unrelated searches.
  • Changing campaigns every day. Both systems need time and data to learn.
  • Ignoring the follow-up. Slow replies in Messenger or missed calls waste paid leads.
  • Too small a budget spread too thin. Ten campaigns with Tk 200 a day each rarely learn anything useful.

Should you hire an agency or run ads yourself?

You can run a simple Facebook campaign yourself, but most businesses benefit from expert help once they spend a meaningful monthly amount or start Google Ads, which needs more technical setup.

In Bangladesh, agency management fees typically range from around Tk 10,000 to Tk 40,000 a month for small accounts, or a percentage of ad spend for larger ones. These are typical market ranges and vary by scope. If you are comparing providers, our guide to the best digital marketing company in Bangladesh explains what to look for and which questions to ask.

Whoever runs your ads should give you full ownership of your ad accounts, pixel and data, and report on cost per sale rather than vanity numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Is Facebook advertising cheaper than Google Ads in Bangladesh?

Facebook ads often cost less per click or per message, which makes them look cheaper. Google leads usually have stronger buying intent, so the cost per actual sale can be similar or lower on Google. Compare platforms on cost per sale, not cost per click.

What is a good starting budget for a small business?

Many small businesses test Facebook ads with around Tk 10,000–30,000 a month and Google Search ads with around Tk 20,000–60,000 a month. These are typical market ranges and vary by industry. Run a test for at least four weeks before deciding whether a platform works.

Do I need a website to run Google Ads?

For Search campaigns you need a landing page, because Google’s Quality Score includes landing page experience. Call-focused ads can work with limited pages, but a fast, relevant page usually improves results. Facebook ads can run without a website using messages or lead forms.

Are Instagram ads worth it in Bangladesh?

Instagram’s ad reach in Bangladesh is far smaller than Facebook’s, at 9.15 million versus 64.0 million in DataReportal’s 2026 report. It can still work for fashion, beauty and younger urban audiences. Most local advertisers run Instagram as an extra placement within the same Meta campaign.

How long does it take to see results from paid ads?

Both platforms can deliver clicks and messages within days of launch. Reliable results usually take four to eight weeks, as the systems learn and you refine keywords, audiences and creatives. Avoid making large changes every day during that learning period.
