Best WooCommerce Payment Gateways in Bangladesh (bKash, Nagad, SSLCommerz)

Customer paying for an online order with a smartphone mobile wallet

For most WooCommerce stores in Bangladesh, the best setup is one licensed payment aggregator, such as SSLCommerz, shurjoPay or aamarPay, which covers cards, bKash, Nagad and Rocket through a single integration, plus cash on delivery with sensible limits. Add a direct bKash merchant integration only if most of your customers pay with bKash and you want a smoother, cheaper flow for them.

Softwix builds and maintains WooCommerce stores for Bangladeshi brands, and payment setup is one of the questions we are asked most often. This guide explains how each option works, what we checked on each provider’s own pages in October 2026, and how to choose. If you would rather have it done for you, our WordPress and WooCommerce development team handles gateway integration as part of every store build.

Which payment methods do Bangladeshi shoppers expect?

Bangladeshi shoppers expect to see bKash, Nagad, card payment and cash on delivery at checkout, with Rocket and other wallets a bonus. A store that offers only cards, or only COD, loses buyers who prefer the other route.

Mobile financial services are the everyday way many customers pay online, while cards matter more for higher-value orders and corporate buyers. Cash on delivery remains common, especially for first-time buyers who do not yet trust a new store.

If you sell to customers outside Bangladesh as well, you will also need an international option such as PayPal or Stripe through a supported entity. That is a separate decision from local gateways.

What types of payment gateway can you use with WooCommerce in Bangladesh?

There are three types: licensed aggregators that bundle many methods, direct wallet integrations such as the bKash merchant API, and manual “send money” plugins where the customer types a transaction ID. Aggregators and direct APIs confirm payment automatically; manual plugins do not.

Payment aggregators

An aggregator gives you one merchant account, one settlement and one WooCommerce plugin for cards, mobile wallets and internet banking. The customer is sent to a hosted payment page or popup, picks a method, pays, and the order updates automatically.

Direct wallet integrations

A direct integration connects your store to one provider, usually bKash, through its merchant API. The customer stays closer to your brand and the flow can be faster, but you manage a separate account, separate settlement and a separate plugin for each wallet.

Manual payment plugins

Manual plugins show your wallet number and ask the customer to send money and enter the transaction ID. Someone on your team must check each payment in the app before shipping. They cost nothing to set up, but they create work, delay orders and are easy to abuse with fake transaction IDs.

Is SSLCommerz the best all-in-one gateway for WooCommerce?

SSLCommerz is the most established all-in-one option for WooCommerce in Bangladesh, with an official plugin and the widest published list of payment methods. Whether it is “best” for you depends on the rate and settlement terms you are offered.

On its website in October 2026, SSLCommerz listed 33+ payment options, including all debit, credit and prepaid cards, 10 mobile banking brands such as bKash, Nagad and Rocket, 10 internet banking options and 30+ EMI banks. It describes itself as PSO-licensed by Bangladesh Bank and serving more than 12,960 digital commerce businesses.

The official SSLCommerz Payment Gateway plugin on WordPress.org showed version 6.2.0 and 2,000+ active installations at the time of writing. Its listing says it supports hosted and popup (“EasyCheckout”) modes, handles IPN with no extra configuration, can pass the gateway charge to the customer or the merchant, and supports EMI where your agreement includes it.

One detail to know: the plugin creates the order with a “Pending” status before payment and updates it after a successful transaction. Plan your stock and email settings around that.

How do shurjoPay and aamarPay compare?

Both are PSO-licensed aggregators that cover cards and the main mobile wallets, so they are credible alternatives to SSLCommerz. The practical differences are the rate you are offered, settlement speed, support and how current their WooCommerce plugin is.

shurjoPay

shurjoPay’s website states it was the first organisation to receive a Payment System Operator licence from Bangladesh Bank, in 2016, and that it is PCI DSS 4.0.1 compliant. It lists card networks including Visa, Mastercard, American Express and UnionPay, wallets including bKash, Nagad, Rocket, Upay and others, and 21+ ready plugins, WooCommerce among them. Fees are not published.

aamarPay

aamarPay lists Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, bKash, Rocket, Nagad, Upay and several other wallets, and states that it holds a PSO licence and is PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant. Its integration list did not name WooCommerce explicitly when we checked, so confirm the current plugin with their team before you sign up.

aamarPay is the only one of the three that publishes its rates. Its pricing page (October 2026) listed card fees from 1.85% to 2.75% per transaction and mobile banking fees from 1.75% to 2.20%, depending on the plan, with no monthly fee and a one-time setup fee quoted on request.

How much do payment gateways charge in Bangladesh?

Expect a percentage of each transaction plus a one-time setup fee. aamarPay’s published rates of 1.75% to 2.75%, with mobile banking cheaper than cards, are a useful benchmark; SSLCommerz and shurjoPay quote rates on application.

Rates vary by business category, monthly volume and negotiation, so ask every provider for a written quote. Compare these points side by side:

  • Transaction fee for cards and for each wallet
  • One-time setup or onboarding fee
  • Annual or monthly fees, if any
  • Settlement time to your bank account
  • Refund handling and any refund fee
  • Whether you can pass the charge to the customer

On a store doing BDT 10 lakh a month in online payments, the difference between 1.8% and 2.5% is BDT 7,000 a month. That is worth a phone call.

How do you add bKash directly to WooCommerce?

You need a bKash merchant account with payment gateway API credentials, and then a plugin or custom code that connects WooCommerce to the bKash API. There is no longer an official bKash plugin in the WordPress.org directory.

The bKash online business page offers a merchant account for registered businesses and a personal retail account for businesses without a trade licence. Registration asks for your business details and a website, Facebook or app URL, with NID, trade licence and bank information as supporting documents.

The “bKash For WooCommerce” plugin that used to be on WordPress.org was closed on 7 December 2023 for a guideline violation. Third-party plugins exist; for example, 6amTech’s “Payment Gateway for bKash and WooCommerce” listed 100+ installs and sandbox and live modes, but also a notice that it had not been tested with the three latest major WordPress versions. Test any third-party plugin on a staging site first.

If bKash is your main payment method and you want features such as saved payment agreements, a custom integration built against the bKash API is often the more reliable route. This is the kind of work our team quotes as part of a store build; our guide to website development cost in Bangladesh explains how e-commerce projects are usually priced.

What about Nagad and Rocket?

The simplest way to accept Nagad and Rocket on WooCommerce is through an aggregator, because SSLCommerz, shurjoPay and aamarPay all list them. Direct merchant integrations are possible but need separate agreements with each provider.

Avoid relying on old manual plugins. One Nagad plugin in the directory, for example, is a third-party “send money and enter TrxID” plugin at version 1.0.0, last tested with WordPress 5.2. Manual verification also means a person has to match every transaction ID before dispatch.

Should you still offer cash on delivery?

Yes, for most Bangladeshi stores, but with limits. COD wins customers who will not pay in advance, while restrictions on high-value orders and certain products protect you from fake orders and returned parcels.

WooCommerce’s built-in Cash on Delivery gateway lets you choose which shipping methods offer COD and whether virtual products can use it. COD orders are set to “Processing” until you confirm the cash has been collected.

What core WooCommerce cannot do is hide COD based on cart value, product category or customer history. That is where a conditional payments plugin helps. Our free Beep Conditional Payments plugin lets you build rules such as “hide cash on delivery when the cart total is above BDT 10,000” or “only show COD to logged-in customers”, and it works with both classic and block checkout. Other conditional payment plugins exist too; choose one that supports the checkout you use. You can see all of our WooCommerce tools on the Softwix products page.

Does your gateway work with WooCommerce block checkout?

Check before you launch. WooCommerce made the Cart and Checkout blocks the default for new stores from version 8.3, released in November 2023, and older gateway plugins do not always support them.

The WooCommerce blocks compatibility documentation warns that if only incompatible payment gateways are active on the checkout block, no payment methods will be available at checkout. The fix is either a compatible plugin or switching the page back to the classic checkout, which WooCommerce lets you do with one click.

How do you set up and test a payment gateway on WooCommerce?

Apply for a merchant account, install the provider’s plugin, connect it in sandbox mode, run test orders, then switch to live credentials and run a small real transaction. Account approval is usually the slowest step, so apply before your store is finished.

  1. Prepare your documents: trade licence, NID, bank account details and a live site with contact details, refund policy, privacy policy and terms.
  2. Apply to your chosen aggregator and, if needed, to bKash for a merchant API.
  3. Install the plugin on a staging copy of your store and enter the sandbox credentials.
  4. Place test orders for each method and check that order status, stock and emails update correctly.
  5. Test a failed payment and a cancelled payment, and confirm the order does not ship.
  6. Test a refund from the WooCommerce order screen if the plugin supports it.
  7. Switch to live credentials, place one small real order and refund it.
  8. Set your COD rules and reorder the gateways so your preferred method appears first.

Which payment gateway should you choose?

Choose based on who your customers are and how much you sell. Here is how we usually advise clients.

Your situation Recommended setup
New store, low volume One aggregator plus COD with a cart-value limit
Growing store, mostly bKash payers Aggregator for cards and other wallets, plus direct bKash API
High-value products (electronics, furniture) Aggregator with EMI, COD hidden above a set order value
Digital products or services Aggregator only; COD switched off for virtual orders
Selling abroad as well Local aggregator plus an international gateway

Whichever you pick, keep the checkout fast. Every extra redirect and slow script adds friction, so pair your payment setup with a quick, well-optimised store; our WooCommerce SEO guide covers the performance side.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best payment gateway for WooCommerce in Bangladesh?

There is no single best gateway for every store. SSLCommerz is the most established option with an official WooCommerce plugin, while shurjoPay and aamarPay are licensed alternatives covering the same main wallets and cards. Compare the written rate, settlement time and plugin support you are offered.

Can I accept bKash on WooCommerce without a trade licence?

bKash offers a personal retail account for online businesses without a trade licence, alongside its merchant account for registered businesses. Payment gateway API access and aggregator accounts usually expect a trade licence and bank account, so check the current requirements with the provider before you build your checkout around it.

Do payment gateways in Bangladesh charge a monthly fee?

Most charge a percentage per transaction and a one-time setup fee rather than a monthly fee. aamarPay, for example, published “No Monthly Fee” on all its plans in October 2026. Always confirm the full fee schedule in writing, including refund and annual charges.

Is it safe to use a manual bKash or Nagad send-money plugin?

It works for very small stores, but it is not automated: your team must verify every transaction ID by hand, and customers can enter fake IDs. Many of these plugins are also old and untested with current WordPress versions. A licensed aggregator or official API is safer once you have regular orders.

How can I reduce fake cash on delivery orders?

Limit COD to certain shipping zones or order values, require a small advance payment through bKash or another wallet for high-value orders, and only offer COD to returning or logged-in customers. A conditional payments plugin lets you set these rules without code.
